Administrative updates and reports:
Superintendent Kelchen- Administration would like to look into the updating of the press box. Mr Kelchen will bring numbers for the June meeting. The school will offer AFLAC supplemental insurance for staff next school year. Mr. Kelchen discussed the 28e agreement for storm protection through Jester insurance, and will make a final decision in June. Mr. Kelchen informed the board of the resignation of director Chad Wolfensperger. Board Secretary McIntosh will post the notice of the plan to fill by appointment.
JH/HS Hannah Corbin- It’s been a whirlwind of a month.
No PD this month—we’ve had a lot going on: track meets, concerts, service day, baseball and
softball starting, all things scheduling, and graduation prep. Teachers are busy finalizing grades and making sure all students are set to finish strong, which has prompted some important Student Success conversations to help get kids across the finish line. Graduation was this weekend and went relatively smoothly. It’s always a fun day, and I was appreciative of all the staff that helped make it happen.
Mr. Brungard was honored on May 20 at 7:00 PM at Gallagher-Bluedorn! The event was open to the public and well attended by staff and community! Our recent ISASP results highlight several strong performances across grade levels. In 6th grade, 23 out of 25 students were proficient in both ELA and Math, with growth exceeding expectations in both areas. Seventh grade also showed above-average growth in Math, while 8th grade Math was a standout, achieving more than double the expected growth, with an impressive class average gain of 48 points. At the high school level, 10th grade demonstrated above-average growth in ELA, and 80% of 11th-grade students who tested were proficient. However, growth data indicates a need for targeted support in 9th grade, where both ELA and Math showed negative growth. Additionally, a small number of high school students scoring significantly below expected growth heavily impacted overall averages. To build on our strengths and address these gaps, we will consider implementing focused interventions for struggling high school students, while continuing to reinforce effective instructional and engagement strategies in both ELA and Math that have led to growth at the Middle School level.
Elementary Patty Foster- Congratulations to Mrs. Tisue and Mrs Marquart. Mrs. Tisue and Mrs. Marquart’s kindergarten classes won 1st and 2nd place in the Read Across Iowa Challenge. Mrs. Tisue’s class read 16,015 minutes during the month of March and Mrs. Marquart’s class read 14,979. Way to go Raider Readers! A big thank you goes out to our amazing PTO who brought the Totally Rolled Ice Cream truck to town and purchased an ice cream treat for all our staff members. THANK YOU! PTO will purchase a semi load of wood chips for our playground this summer! Mr. Timmer will get them where they need to go over the summer months. We had a very successful Lunch on the Lawn despite a few sprinkles and spring breezes. Families enjoyed time to gather, eat, and catch up with each other. A big thank you goes out to our Student Leadership Team and Student Ambassadors for making everyone feel welcome. Our preliminary ISASP data is in and we have lots to celebrate. Our students (and teachers) worked hard to prepare for these assessments and their hard work paid off! All three grade levels are above 80% proficient in math, and 4th grade is above 80% proficient in ELA. Our third graders did a fantastic job with their first experience with these very rigorous tests! We will run our Jumpstart Reading Program and ESY on August 4th-15th. We’ve started to receive RSVP’s for both programs and we’re hoping for a good turn out this year. We invited over 60 students to these summer programs. Upcoming Events 5/21- PK Graduation (4-YO) 5/23- Last Day Student Breakfast & Staff Lunch
